SPEECH AT SAINT PAUL UNIVERSITY IN OTTAWA

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is a special honour for me to receive this Honourary Degree in Theology from Saint Paul University, particularly since this university has produced such a great graduate as Archbishop Adélard Langevin of St. Boniface, who exercised jurisdiction over the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Canada during the pioneer period of Ukrainian settlement until the arrival of Bishop Nicetas Budka in 1912. His Grace Archbishop Langevin contributed enormously to the initial organization of the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Canada and the establishment of the bishopric. He will always be fondly remembered by the Ukrainians Canadians as a great benefactor, educator and ecumenist.

I am indeed grateful for this degree and will always be happy to be associated with this fine university, to which I wish continuing success.
